    Ramblings.........

So the rambling teacher thing didn't survive. I have better things to do. I have a new webpage for my class www.franklin.k12.nh.us/jgilbert.cfm

It's not been updated for a week since we haven't had school, but there's some interesting things on there.

So today I get to order my new computer. I'm getting a Dell. 250gb Hard Drive. Core 2 Quad 2.4 ghz processor. 512mb geforce 8800 GT Video Card, 3gb of memory, and a 19" Ultrasharp Digital Monitor. Window Vista Premium is in there as well as some other less imprtant options.

The house is finally taking shape. The kitchen just needs a floor, and we're waiting 'til we have the bathroom done before we do that, so we can do it all together. I painted the floor in the nursery and set up the crib so Eileen can finally get busy on her "nesting." I also cleaned up the middle room so it no longer looks like a storage shed, bu t rather a useful living space. The built in bookcase is finished, incluing the desk below. Now we just need some furniture for that room.

The only problem now is what to do next. I want it to be Spring so I can do the work that needs to be done outside. But I also want to finisht the attic off. We need to buy a couple area rugs as well. Dad and I are hopefully going to work on some small things this weekend, including setting up my work bench downstairs in the basement. Ho-hum what to start on.... Maybe I'll just use the last couple of days of my vacation AS an ACTUAL vacation...Oh wait.... I have more data entry to do for school....15 hours devoted to it so far....how much more can there possibly be? *sigh* Maybe April will be a REAL vacation.....

    For now,

    Mr. G.

180 Days of School: Ramblings of a Second Grade Teacher

    Days 56-84: Catching up...sort of.

So the year keeps cruising by quickly. We're nearly half-way done! I taken on some more responsibilities and am now feeling the pressure.

I had the first IEP meeting that actually meant something today! Seriously, we actually discussed what services we could begin withdrawing from this particular student because they've made such great progress. They are certainly a candidate to be out of the SPED program by the end of third grade.

Over the time I've been away, I lost my brightest student. He moved to Laconia. :( It's the first time I've actually been upset about losing a student.

I'm still having the same attendance problems with the same students, and still nothing has been changed.

I have also started working on my classroom web page. I'll post the link when I get a chance, and when it's a little more finished.

We've had several (too many) snow days already, and more seem to be looming. It seems to be one of those years. Oh well, at least we've got air conditioning in our building. June won't be as bad as usual.

Progress is being made in the kitchen and the rest of the house. We have electricity, and plumbing and we've removed the plaster and sheet rock from the final wall. I installed the insulation and our electrician was able to deaden the live wires we found covered up. The built-in bookcase is looking nicer and nicer. I still have a few more small pieces to add before priming and painting. We still have to decide how to do the lower portion. Again, I'll post pictures of the house when a) my computer is returned b) my computer isn't returned, but the files are c) I remember to do so.

Finally, we added to our family. No, we didn't have our baby early.... We decided to add to the feline line. Chaucer 2.0 has arrived and has made her presence known over the past week. Her name is Marlowe, and she seems to have the same personality as Chaucer. I'm glad they're finally getting along a little better. Oh, and I actually have pictures.

So that's it for now. Hey, Dad, you want to help me sheet rock that wall on Monday maybe?

    Until then,

    Mr. G.

Sorry, I'm experiencing technical problems. Namely my computer is unable to boot up. I know what you're thinking. "How am I posting?" Well I brought my school laptop home and hooked it up temporarily. The only problem is that it's very limited. I'm going to have to bring my other laptop to a techy so they can retrieve our pictures and things. Maybe we should take our gifts back and buy a new computer.... Nah not nearly as much fun.

At any rate, the blogging is on hold for the time being.

    For now,

    Mr. G.

  • 180 Days: Ramblings of a Second Grade Teacher.

    Day 53:

    ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz............................

    Day 54:

    ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz............................

    Day 55:

    ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz *snort* ZzzZzz *Grunt*........Ahem...

Sorry, I thought I should be hibernating. I think I'm ready to start posting again. Almost 1/3 of the way through. 4 weeks 'til Christmas break.

I've got a lot more done on the kitchen. The floor is mostly done, with only a few "little" things left. My bro helped a lot, and my other bro "helped" me do a better job on the sheetrock. I'm gonna start painting this week. Our cabinets are coming on Tuesday, and we'll install them on Saturday/Sunday next. Counter is on order, dishwasher needs ordering, hood needs buying then we see about that last wall. After that, we do the floor. Somewhere in there, the electrical and plumbimg gets finished, and that will give us a completed kitchen hopefully by Christmas....or at least close....maybe.....

    For now,

    Mr. G.
